Successful wave power devices must meet several serious technical challenges. In his paper, ‘On the difficulty of inventing an economical sea wave energy converter: a personal view.’, M.J. French, Professor Emeritus at Lancaster University, wrote, “Three distinguishing features of wave power are that the [wave] velocities are small and the forces very large, that those forces and velocities are alternating, and that the frequency at which they alternate is irregular enough to be very unhelpful.” A successful wave power device must meet these challenges as well as the challenge of survival in a corrosive and periodically violent environment.
Our efforts now are directed to developing WaveMate™ micro-scale wave power devices which will provide up to 1000 Watts of clean green electrical power for lighting, battery charging, and heating. Over the longer term, our goal is to build on the research findings and acquired technical and marketing experience, to develop small wave power devices of scale and configuration appropriate to an increasingly wide variety of users and applications.
